Hello,

This past spring my family and I were able to spend a month in Tamarindo, Costa Rica where I was able to learn to surf. I enjoyed it and was looking for a new location for next year if my hubby will agree to it! I'm still surfing on a longboard and would be looking for waves comparable to Tamarindo in size and consistency. The requirements would be within an 8 hour flight from the east coast of USA, a developed area with hospital nearby and broad band internet connection. (We have two small children which is why I'm requesting a developed area and the broad band is so my husband can work). I know California has all of these requirements but I hoping for maybe a location outside the US. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you - Lisa

Theres some great spots in mexico, Cabo san lucas has some great surf spots, costa azul, zippers, monuments. try cabo surf hotel right next to zippers, also full rental shop with everything from Robert august longboards to rusty shortboards, and peurto vallarta has some good surf too. all well developed areas with hospitals and internet. not too long a flight and both these areas are very safe, friendly and lots of other activities to do if the surf is ever flat.

also you can try some carribean spots like Tortola, one of my favorite islands to surf, its where the pic in my avatar was taken, awesome gentle breaks there ideal for longboaring, plus some more advanced breaks when the swell gets up. though getting hold of boards can be tricky, only a few places rent. also barbados and peurto rico are pretty good, but i hear the localism in P.R can be a bit much at times.

Dominican republic in the north can have some great waves too and all inclusive hotels are pretty cheap and flights pretty regular.

hope this gives you a few ideas, and enjoy your travels!

Hell Guys,
Morocco is not to exlude a beguinner surfing destination, especialy in the summer time when waves are small and have less power than the winter ground swells. Lots of safe beachies to practice on.
