I can only give you local knowlege on two locations

1. San Diego- I'm sure the most expensive of the five. July gets the summer s. and s.w. swells (could be flat or ten foot)Lots of spots to choose from and nice summer vibe. North county is fun as well I'm not enough of a local to tell you of the best summer spots.

2. N. Baja Great food Great people less expensive (not as cheap as it used to be) if you can get down to La Fonda/La Mission area, it's a nice summer spot and if there's some good swell from the west, San Miguel is a classic right point. Here's the catch, I haven't been there for a couple of years do to the rise in crime and assaults against visiters.

Maybe it's just because I'm from here, but if I had the choice I'd go to Indo :)

Excellent feedback, Indo has made the list many times. Cali can get flat but not often, especially considering East Coast standards.

Mexico, has changed over the past 10 years & agree that safety issues make it far less attractive.

San Clemente is a nice town with a good vibe, great place to live.

I lived in Encinitas for 7 years. awesome place.
