Beginner With 3 Months to Surf

Postby paulmm3 » Mon Mar 29, 2010 9:00 am

Hey all,

I recently took a 14 day surf trip with no prior surfing experience and fell in love with the sport. Unfortunately, previously made travel plans will keep me out of the water for all but a few days over the next month and a half. However, I have 3 months (June, July, August) with no plans and a bit of money saved up, and I would love to head somewhere in the world to hang out on the beach and surf all day. I'd like to find somewhere relatively uncrowded, so that my inexperience doesn't ruin waves for a massive line-up of other surfers. Somewhere warm would be preferable as well. Also, I obviously don't need super sick reef breaks or anything since I'm just starting out, I just want good waves and maybe some warm water.

Costa Rica and somewhere in Indonesia/Bali were what I was thinking, but I would love to get some suggestions.

Other info about me: 22, Male, American, Regular footed (if any of that matters)

Thanks for the help!

Nice 3 Months...

Central America has great spots but that is rainy season there. Still, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador all would be good.

Bali, Indonesia is awesome but the crowds are thick, but no doubt a great surfing place.

On the homefront, California, though, the water is a little nippy, is an awesome choice. There are so many waves in San Diego & LA you could not get to all of them in 3 months. The water will be warm enough to skin frequently in July & August and every kind of break you can dream to surf. Part time job is an option and Hawaii is a quick flight away.

Another cool option would be France, Portugal, Spain & Morocco. The waves would not be exceptional but you could mix in some culture & travel that you may never be able to do again.

But, right on, have fun & jump on something, 3 straight months of surf focus will be incredible.
