My wife and I want to take a beach vacation from our snowwy ski town in mid April. Finding a location to satisfy both of our wants is tricky. I’m looking for surf - good, friendly intermediate surf. She’s looking for great beaches with calm, clear, tropical, carribean-esque water for relaxing swimming and good snorkeling is a bonus. If anything comes to mind as far as destinations that fit what we’re looking for, I’d appreciate it. As a bonus, we’re looking to rent a simple 1br place for 2 weeks to a month if we can find something affordable at said location – know of anything to get us looking in the right direction? Thanks in advance for any advice!
Oh - and lastly, the place mut be reasonably affordeable to get to from the US (CO). For example, the Maldives and Tahiti are out, its just prohibitively expensive for us to get there.

I am biased since I own a surf camp here in the Dominican republic, but we do have nice Caribbean flat water, fun surf spots and pretty good surf in April.
we have no apartments in our place , but if you do decided to comer over here, send me a message and I can give you info where studio's or apartments can be rented from directly.
We surfed this a few weeks ago.

On the Aussie thing... While Queensland is good it's pretty populated and crowded. So it's worth keeping in mind that there are lots of other great places to surf in Australia...
NSW, Victoria and South Australia have some epic spots... Just land in the Gold Coast (Queensland), hire a car and follow the coast south.
Western Australia is
epic in April! Try
Margaret River!

If you are interested in Kite surfing, Australia has a variety of places to visit (moffat reef, Golden beach). Site "www.australia-surf.com" tells more.
Kite surfing has added a new way of surfing. Mercifully set-up is not too complicated.

cbrider, I live in Brazil man. I'm from rio de janeiro , but I already have gone to santa catarina and I can tell you some advices.
First of all, the best waves in Brazil are there. Florianópolis is the capital and where are the most popular beaches. You can go there in 2 different seasons:
In summer (december to february) we got really small waves, and the weather is good.Air temperature really warm. The water temperature ranges from 17C to 22C, and a 3.2mm wetsuit is recomendablle.
In winter (july to november) we got the best swells, with great solid waves. Air temperature is fine and can be a litlle cold (at least for us) with the temperature ranging from 12C to 20C. The water temperature stay basicaly the same, 16C to 20C, and a 3.2mm wetsuit is fine.
So that's it. Brazil have a really nice culture at florianópolis. It's not an expensive trip, and you can find good waves there. The surf is almost on beach breakes, and the best beaches are JOAQUINA, PRAIA MOLE, PRAIA DA BARRA, CAMPECHE and others.
Joaquina is a good left, breaking near a rock, and campeche is a powerfull right, with sessions of good barrels at the outside. The others are basically both sides breaks.
The crowd here is fine, of course you have to respect like any other place you go, but people are nice and friendly.
Anyway, any other tips you want, I1m here to help .
Hope you find the place you look for, and if it's Brasil, so be welcome !
Good waves man !

cbrider,
My wife and I have had great luck in Cabo, there are lots of condos (Mykonos Condos) next to Zippers and Old Man's. I had great surf and my wife LOVED the upscale dining options. We did 3 nights in a surf condo for me, then three nights in a luxury hotel (Marquis Los Cabos) for her. It worked perfectly. We also snorkeled and did some diving down there, loved it!
Have fun!

Hi cbrider,
Glad you had a good trip and scored some nice surf. If you plan your next trip maybe the Dominican Republic is also a good alternative

There is decent surf here year round. The most consitent spot is Playa Encuentro next to the nice town of Cabarete. Even in winter it's still warm enough to surf just in boardshorts. It's good for all levels of surfers as the waves do not get too big and the are some peaks spread out which make the swell break in different sizes. Apart from surfing Cabarete has also a lot to offer such as a decent assortment of nice restaurants, a little bit of nightlife, beautiful beaches, waterfalls etc.
I'm running a small boutique hotel right at Playa Encuentro, so the surf is right on the doorstep and we have a nice garden where you can relax and sunbath. If you are interested just have a look at our website
www.hookedcabarete.com. We mainly do get other surfers and kitesurfers, so it's easy to meet nice people here if you like.
Aloha
Nino

Costa Rica is amazing for surfing! It is a great choice for a tropical beach vacation and is still close to the U.S. You should definitely check it out. We list some awesome surf spots on our website, anamayaresort.com/costarica-surfing.html. Playa Grande, Santa Teresa/Malpais, Montezuma and Los Cedros are all beautiful beaches on Costa Rica's Pacific coast.

I am in the Dominican republic right now and would recommend it. I'm in cabarete which offers a nice swimming beach with options to wind or kite surf. 6 minutes drive is Encuentro which is a nice surf spot. i am sure there are others around I just dont know about them.
The people here are very friendly!

I've been wanting to take a tropical vacation and get some surfing lessons under my belt. I've heard Kauai has some great beaches. Anyone been? I would love white sand and glorious palm trees. Thinking of giving KVR a try; anyone familiar?

Hey jjayinla, try to keep your spamming consistent. Did you forget that you have already surfed there? Or did you just make it up to drop the same old link again
