SURFING IN BAHIA OR FLORIPA?

Mid December - mid January, heading alone to Brazil. The question: Where to surf?
I am a bit above beginner (but freestyle snowboarder for 20years) and in search of one spot / nice quiet beach, where i can spend 2-3 weeks and fully concentrate on surfing. maybe a shop that rents equipment close by. Neither secluded, nor overrun. Also open to a camp, at least for the first week, then continue somewhere by myself.
Not looking for: big parties, especially beach raves. Rather nice bar with a cool selection of travelers and locals. Beach Bungalows where you can hear the waves splash at night. Not lowest budget or dorm-hostely, but nice, clean, safe, good value, a special place with personality and style. and hammocks. and decent seafood.
The question is: Bahia or Florianapolis? This is what I heard:
Bahia pro/cons
+warm water
+better waves / spots
-overrun / crowded / touristy
-longer traveling hours to/from (bahia big, salvador far distance)
Floripa pro/cons
+more fashionable now, reveillon!!
+close to sao paulo, easier to travel to
-less better surf spotså
-beaches not so beautiful as in bahia?
I've been several times to in Rio (won't go there now) and Sao Paulo, where i might be finishing the trip with sushi, clubbing (love d-edge and cafe de la music) and fashion week. I am 32yyoung photographer, creative-lively-sociable-type and speak fluent portuguese.
Please let me know your thoughts. Muito obrigado.
