North Devon...for free?

Hi all, I've been looking at the charts etc. and i have friday, saturday and sunday off this week. I've decided to go to Devon, probably Saunton.
Recently I've been for a week or so at a time with my wife and stayed in a cottage, I have a little van and was wondering if I can stay anywhere overnight without the wrath of the law, or slap bang in 'doggerville' or something lol!
I have in Winter stayed overnight in the more well known areas as no-one has been around, i guess Summer I will stick out a bit! Any ideas? Or a cheap campsite where i can park?
