New to SLO, need some local advice

Postby nickdew » Tue Jul 21, 2009 12:20 am

I recently moved to San Luis Obispo county (Los Osos) and would appreciate some local advice. I have sporadic surfing experience (I can stand and turn), but would love to get into the sport given my new location.
1) I was wondering if some one could recommend a good surf shop in the area? I have looked on Yelp! but most of the reviews are seem to be written by people don't know what they are talking about (ie: tourists). I would like to find a place where people know their stuff, the prices are fair, and they have a good selection of boards (used?).
2) What kind of boards do you like for the area? I don't have a board right now, but am debating between getting a fish or a short board (squash tail). Eventually I would like to have both, but was wondering which is an all around better board for the area.

Thanks Travel. I have looked on Craigslist but it seems to only have a few shinning stars. I did find a good surf shop and spent some time talking to one of the guys there, so once I can get some money together I should be good to go.
