i know very little about surfing that area, its a good night out though. there are loads of good reefs just up from whitley bay which is where i know more about but have had a look at blyth a few times. if you're looking at surfing blyth you'll want to try and get there for low tide (usually swell is bigger on the incoming tide), you may get some waves this weekend, there is a car park at blyth beach too but not sure if you'll be allowed to stay and not sure what its like there in the night (as for chavs etc).
as i say i generally know very little about surfing blyth as whenever i've been there the swells slightly been too small to get it to work, where other beaches work better on small swell. the reefs are pretty good and worth checking out just a small drive up (and down for that matter) from blyth as well as a few beach breaks. i'd avoid tynemouth on a saturday as the weathers been nice and every single person in the north east will be there (or are likely to be).
most of the beaches up that way are sign posted off the dual carriageway so you should be ok finding the beaches. let me know where you're planning on surfing and i'll try to give you more info.

Tynemouth is a reasonable beach break when its on, however reports ive been getting lately are saying knee high at best.

from msw, nothing, could be reading 1ft at 2sec and have nice 2-3ft although sometimes its forecast swell that never turns up. theres likely to be a wave just might miss us up here, although may get 1-2ft although possibly bigger the further south you go. saying that, this last month i've had more surfs than the whole winter, the swells lasted up to 7 days on 2 occasions which is unusual for here although im back in south wales a lot more now as i only have college twice a week so make the trip home more often.
