Hi all, I did a search on the forums and couldn't find anything specific so I figured I'd start a new thread. I am currently living in Pittsburgh, PA but may be moving to the Raleigh area shortly. I have always been interested in surfing and would love to give it a try. I was wondering if anyone on the forums was from that area and had any info for a newbie. Anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

i would give you advise, except that you're a dirty scouser fan
outer banks are about a 3 1/2 hour drive. there are a bunch of surf schools/surf shops that can get you set up on a lesson.
where in pittsburgh do you live now? i went to pitt. been to pipers pub?

Haha yeah dude I love Piper's. It's one of the only bars in town that plays footie matches. Great beer and scotch there too. Nothing like going in at 10am, ordering a Glenfiddich and watching some EPL. I live in Bloomfield and am about a 5 minute walk from Shadyside hospital. Thanks for the info.

their fish and chips are so good there too. it was the only place i could find tennents. i loved watching games there.
the drive from raleigh to the outer banks rivals the drive from pittsburgh to harrisburg/other points east on the turnpike in the boredom department. the nice thing coming from that way is that there is rarely heavy tourist traffic

Dignan,
In addition to surfing in the NC Outer Banks, there is a lot of history and great fishing to enjoy. It is a wonderful region.

PS. Am not in NC, but used to be.

My wife and kids are heading to Raleigh early August from Southern CA.. I will be following shortly.. Once you get settled let me know what you find. We'll split gas on weekends or "swell" days..
