hey, as to surf schools... if your willing to spend the money... go to some local shops and as about them. As to advice... go out with a friend/family member and have them push you in the waves in the beggining so you catch waves easier. Also before you go out... go into a local pond/saltpond and practice getting on your board, paddling, sitting etc.etc.

yeh im an adelaide boy (almost 17). Been surfing pretty full on for about 6 months.. although owned a surfboard for about 7 years.. ive only just really got into it.. getting pretty good now.. doing turns and stuff nicely! I usually surf down south coast (victor harbour way) at waitpinga (waits) or parsons.. went there yesterday. 4-5' and powerful! was fun until i got stuck in the zone and couldnt get out.. to big to paddle out and the whitewash was to strong to get bak in.. but i got out of it and went back out.. had good surf.. the waves where barreling! was a good sight.. after school and stuff i tend to head down to midcoast (like seaford and moana and stuff) Midcoast on good days are a lot better for begginners.. the wave isnt as steep and u can get a long ride.. although sometimes its packed.. for starters hit the midcoast or middleton point/day st. stretch.. good fun waves to start on!

I'm in Adelaide, I mainly surf the south coast down at Middleton if Im going with other people, but if im driving by myself ill usually head down the mid coast to somewhere like Southport...Try to avoid somewhere like Waits unless you are experienced and like the idea of sharks. Check out the following website it talks about all the surf beaches around SA, www.surfsouthoz.com

Mid Coast (Adelaide Metro) spots pretty much start at southport (Port Noarlunga South) and stretch down to Aldinga/Sellicks beach.

Moana is pretty good if you are learning.

South Coast (Vistor harbor and environs) is 30 mins or so from the Mid Coast but tends towards bigger surf. If you are a beginnger best bet is anywhere on Surfers Parade at Middleton.

You'll find plenty of all of the above over here... Except the surf ;)

Check my response on the other threads you posted on.

TJ,
That's the opposite of me (weekends only, except in summer). You in the southern suburbs? If you are an AS just spend all day at the Seaford Reef (shortboarder) or Three Poles (mals) and you'll get tight with crew pretty soon. Warning: Seaford Reef can be very localised but friendly - just don't drop in and make sure your surfing is up to it.

Easty,
What do you ride? I might be able to set something up.

You ride a shorty so you'll wanna skip Middleton and head straight for Waits or Parsons. Got steeper takeoffs, more size and more critical sections. Shacks sometimes too (depends on the wind and swell direction, as usual).

If you want a really, really cheap new wettie call the Wetsuit Factory (South Road, Reynella, 0413 372 925). They are normally cheap as it gets. But they are shutting down and eliminating their stock! So even cheaper!! If you just want second hand do the rounds of the pawn shops and you'lll get something decent that's cheap (sniff before you buy tho).

There'll be waves down south all weekend but cleaner on Sunday. If you want to do Saturday you'll be best on the dawn patrol (start driving south at 5am mate).

For forecasts down south:
Swellnet SA South Coast
Surf South Oz South Coast

If you wanna meet crew and have time to surf mid-week keep an eye on those forecasts and make sure you are at Seaford Reef when they expect waves. Especially on an incoming (esp morning) tide. You've surfed Indo and Vanuatu so your skills will be fine - don't drop in, surf well and be friendly in the carpark and you'll meet shortboard crew.

I've got a house full of sick people so I'm not gonna get a surf this weekend :(

I'll post or PM if I remember anything else that might be useful. Feel free to ask anyway :D
