Surfing Waves

Hey all just after some input as someone who's only been surfing for about 8 months and considering a trip to France in the summer.

I ride a 7'10" Surfers Paradise board and tend to stay in my depth and don't go out if it's over 4foot (for fear of getting trashed) at my local break in Bude so want to know if going in July would be worth my while to get some consistent 3-4ft waves or will I spend my time dodging monsters lol??

The vague plan in my head is to get the ferry over to Calais then drive down and spend a week somewhere camping and get as much time in the water as possible whilst catching some sun

Any help, advise, website links for camping etc much appreciated

havent been up to hossegor but i think you'd get what your looking for down in anglet / biarritz anyway, not many summer monsters down there anyway, theres a youth hostel in anglet which u can camp in; if ur driving, depending on how much time you have, why stick to one place?....

I have been there and it was awesome - not for beginners when a decent size however !

The waves are so much more powerful than in the UK – but perfectly formed !

I’d recommend reading up on different breaks and find one to suit what you want from the trip - I used the Stormriders guide to Europe – bang on descriptions of the surf breaks.

You have plenty of time so have fun choosing and dreaming of the perfect session

Can't comment on Hossegor, but I've been to the Vendee the past two years and have found awesome, empty waves, perfect for a rook like me. Check out St Jean Du Monts & the coast between La Tranche sur mer and Les Sables d'Olonne.

It's heavy, but epic, might be worth a look at other areas on the west coast, Hossegor is particularly heavy due to a deep water channel, there are lots of other slightly more mellow options around there.

At the end of the day, the wine, cheese, cakes and chicks are perfect. And there's nothing quite like paddling out behind a hot naked chick on a boogie board
