Long drives with board

I am going to be driving to SoCal from Mid-western Washington. I was wondering if a board would be safe on the roof for the 1400 mile trip and what precautions I should take to make sure the board makes it without harm. Any tips or advise on traveling with boards would probably help.

on journy like that it might be worthwle getting a bag and strapping that down on your roof racks. I use these ties that are like black heavy duty ruber if im going on a journey i will strap down some of the red fabric ties as well for security. It shouldnt be an issue. Just each time you make a pit stop check out the boards and make sure all is good.

I am going to have a sock at least and I will put foam padding on the rack itself and around the straps/ties. I am mostly concerned with the bugs/pebbles hitting it while driving. I might throw some foam pipe insulation around the nose as well, inside the sock. Do you think this sounds good, or should I focus on getting a board bag?

I wish I had space in the car for a 7+ foot board. I may be able to work it, but I doubt it. I may be able to fit it in the trailer but it would be sticking out the front window (back doesn't open) and the interior is only 6 foot. I think the bottom line is that I need to get the board so I can attempt to troubleshoot the carrying problem. I don't want to get to California and spend a couple days repairing a damaged board. Thanks guys.

what kind of car do you have? and how much other stuff/people will be in the car as well. i've fit an 8'4" longboard in my mk2 jetta. i had to lay the front passenger seat the whole way down and kind of angle it in. it took some persuasion, but it worked.

You'll be fine. Bag is better, but otherwise the board will just end up a bit dirty.

Might be worth looking at getting a lock for it if you will be leaving it unattended on the car.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it will be me and my dog. I may be able to fit it in the cab, we will see.

Putting the dog on the roof is a bit harsh, make sure you can fit in in the cab!

put the front passenger seat and back seats down and the board should fit easily, i can fit a 7'2 mini mal in my ford focus with that method, you should have no problems.

an i cant stand roof racks, i swaer the pressure of those straps don't do good things for my board.
