Fuerteventura Camping

Has anyone ever done a trip to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands?

So I am going to fuerteventura for a little more than a week in feb. Some buddies and I are renting a car and hoping to get the most out of the trip by camping. Just some questions for anyone who has been there.

1)Is the camping idea feasible/is it safe?

2) Is a 4x4 a necessity or would I be ok with a 2 wheel dirve van?

3)So My general plan was to start out on the northwestern part of the island where it seems to be more populated, and then make my way around the whole island where I was hoping would be decent less crowded spots? Just looking for some input? a good plan? How far is it from one side to the other in hours?

I would appreciate any help I can get..really just any input would be great.

Been a few years since I was there but camping was a plenty out there. Seems safe enough, little communities centred around the breaks of alike people. Usual common sense applies... take few valuables if you do have em keep em out of site/locked in the car atleast and don't flash em about.

Vehicle wise depends where you go and there was alot of building going on so its prob better now. North track was passable in a normal car but i've seen signs of rutting and trouble when its been wet (which is rare) just stick to the track and avoid sand. South of the island is good up till the last town. then it turns back into haggerd track that gets progressively worse. 4x4 if you want to go over the mountain ridge into the SW beaches.

Does anyone know a campsite for tents on Fuerteventura ? Preferably on the coast with somewhere to eat nearby .Also online photos of the campsite and a way to check it is still operating .
I saw a photo of one on here ,can I get to it with out a car ?
I have searched and searched the internet and not found a single campsite address .Your help appriecated.
