Suitable waves for Beginner in Brazil - Jan/Feb.?

I have a couple weeks in Rio in Jan/Feb. I want to do take some lessons
and get in some surf. Will the waves at that time be good for a beginner? Would I be better off in Florianopolis or some other part of Brazil at that time?
