Bringing your surfboard with RyanAir?

Hi! Just wanted to ask a question regarding Ryanair's baggage policy. I saw on their FAQ that the fees which apply are located here: http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=CHARGES (£25 per way, which isn't too bad..)
So, my quick question is if anybody here has brought their surfboards with RyanAir before (for example to Biarritz)? And if so, did it arrive in one piece?
Any hazzle from the check-in or anything (considering their #1 priority is saving as much time as possible)?
Sorry about the boring question, but just wanted some feedback on this; considering some of my surfing buddies were really negative to flying with RyanAir, as they "didnt handle surfboards properly"
Thanks!
