Warm Waters

Want to surf abroad but not sure where. Any suggestions?. warm water and sunshine. Somewhere that will keep my girlfriend happy.

James just got back from Costa Rica. James liked the warm water in Costa Rica. His girlfriend had a good time as well. She liked Gallo Pinto.

Anyone surfed Costa Rica?

Can you reccomend anywhere?

All inclusive to keep my girl happy, surf close-by and peace and quiet.

I surfed Costa Rica, spent months there. It was great back in'99 and less so in '03. That place is just too popular I feel.

If I was to recommend a place, it would be Santa Therese\ Mal Pais.

No all-inclusives in MalPais/ST, but a real cool surf camp. Quick walk to the surf, decent food, good pool, owners are awesome, lotsa of surfboards and pretty good instructors. I have stayed there a few times. It is called MalPais Surf Camp and if you need more info, PM me.

Hi There,

I live since 4 years in Cabarete (Dominican republic) where I together with my girlfriend Chantal have build a small hotel for surfers and kitesurfers. (young active people).
We are the closest accommodation to the spot Encuentro where is always a good vibe.
Water is warm

Plenty of other things to do next to surfing and Cabarete is a great town also. Lot's of cool bars and restaurants and very relaxed atmosphere.
Flights are very affordable with Tomas Cook or other airlines (Fly into Puerto Plata POP) and life is cheap here.

The Dominican republic sounds quite good. You could probarbly get a charter flight out there because British tour companies run holidays there. Its daft to go to an all inclusive resort because you could slum it dead cheap, and it would be awsome, go in winter to the north coast. It should get a persistent antalantic swell, but Id check this because Iv lived in Puerto Rico, the next island and dont know the specifics of DR.

Niccaragua has a pacific and carribean coast (i think), and is totally unspoilt by greedy westerners.

@Ged. Lots of direct flight to the DR. Book a ticket only and accommodation separate. If you really want to discover the surfscene and a country, don't book All Inclusive.
There are plenty of good and cheap restaurants and the AI scene is ...... different :-)

Most people who book at our place are looking for an alternative from the AI resorts and want to go "of the beaten path"
We try to give people a little of the DR and let them experience the country by the trips we offer and the recommendations we give. The AI resorts only are out for your money.

Amen to that. Support local businesses direct.
I made the mistake of going to Gambia (not all inclusive but via a package tour operator) but discovered most of the money (over 90%) never enters the country let alone the local economy

Red Frog Bungalows, Bocas Del Toro, Panama. Great waves, warm water, awesome food and frinedly knowledgeable staff. The place is Top-SHelf all the way
