Hi
Here is a website descriping the coastline
http://www.travel-fact.com/france/france_index.htm
The big places as I see it is Soorts Hosegor, Lacanou Ocean. Better look at a wavechart first. This time a year you can have long spells of nothing.
Cheers Tom

yes best place to head is down to the south west between bordeaux and biarritz. excellent waves on one long stretch of beach so should be able to avoid the crowds. board hire in every beach town. you should be able to get away without a suit at this time of year if you go that far down. if you cant get that far down theres waves on the coastlines of the departments of gironde, charantes and vendee. im have a feeling they dont pick up as much swell though.
Landes is where its at.
