florida weather ~aug. 30? hurricanes? new smyrna

im planning a trip down to florida to try surfing around aug. 30th.
i'm planning on going to New Smyrna/Ponce area.
is the weather going to be terrible due to the hurricanes hitting florida? or will they be pretty well cleared up by then?

If your coming here for surf you will want the hurricanes. Why wish them off when they bring awsome waves.

yeah i guess that makes sense. as long as the winds wont blow me off of the board then i'll be alright?
