Surfing Waves

hello. i m planning a trip to somewhere in europe by car in october (not enlgland). what would be good places to surf? do you have any experiences of for example france/portugal? do you normally need a wetsuit in there in october? maybe stubid questions, but i am very new in this surfingthing..
i see there is already quite a lot information about france... but what would you suggest for a beginner. i gonna buy a board before i go to france. maybe i buy one from france. is it easy to find a surfshop in there? what are prices like comparing to for example these shops in net?

Just been down to Portugal for 2 weeks and needed a wetsuit. Boards are a bit cheaper than here in guernsey. I was in the peniche area and only had a few flat days
