The Morocco Experienc... or help out a fellow surfer!

Hey, I've been surfing about six months now (using a 8''6 Mini-Mal), mostly in bad surf! Besides, coming from Norway we have an average temperature in the water at about 5-6 degrees C during the winter! And, even though I've been crushed by dumping waves a thousand times, it's been an altogether good experience... the surf has completely rejuvenated my life!

I have decided that i want to do something different next winter though, i want to work up some money and travel to Morocco and stay there over winter!
I was thinking at least for two months, and i was thinking mainly of Taghazout and the nearby villages/towns/spots.
I will probably spend the first week at one of the many surf camps there, to get an overview of the different spots, waves, pros and cons.

Does any of you have any experience traveling like this? How much money would you say i need? I probably need to buy a board, and i need some place to stay, and of course food and other basic needs! The surf camps is about 400-600 Euro's for a week (which is a lot of money), for the cheapest ones. I guess the main issue is how much money i need to find a cheap place to live, transport to the beach with a surfboard (i don't own a drivers license)... i don't mind living basic, as long as i have a place to sleep and a real bathroom with facilities!

Of course, if the other surfers/locals down there are as friendly as i picture, i don't really need to go to a surf camp, and have additional money to spend for instance at a longer stay!

All help and tips are welcome - think about the 6 degrees in the water and the 1-2 degrees air, and i am sure you find it in your heart to help me out!

Hey mate,

I was in Tagazhout for 5weeks at the end of last year. Its an awesome spot and can produce some pumping waves!! If i was you i wouldnt go to the surf camps they are so expensive. Fair enough they take you to all the spots and feed you but i reckon your better off saving your cash and doing it by yourself. You could buy a car while your over there or even better a van. Accomo is easy to find and cheap. As soon as you arrive go and talk to the guys at the surf shops and ask them. I stayed in the last big apartment block on your left as your heading towards anchor point. Real cheap for what it is and the rooms can sleep about seven people. You will meet heaps of crew doing the same thing as you so your best off seeing who is staying around and see if they want to share a place for the whole time. If you go and eat at "le spot" little restaurant upstairs on the beach side of the road you will meet loads of people. Also the food is really good there and cheap! I would take your own boards there then sell em when you leave. Its pretty hard to find a good stick when your there and they are not very cheap.

Have a sick trip morocco is epic! Do lots of exploring there are so many awesome waves to be had!! Dont just stick to the local spots ! Enjoy the local kids hussling you for cash in the carparks and watch out for the psycho taxi drivers.
