Hey all.

Had a surf trip not go through, my wife is gone to Canada for all of June, and I have nothing to do. So, I have decided to drive a vehicle that I still have in Canada down to Costa Rica in the last 2 weeks of June.

I am looking at stopping for a little surf on the way down and also to maybe see some of the historic sites. I am doing the Pacific coast route (not the Baja but the mainland) of Mexico, into Guatamala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, then CR. I know of a couple places to check out but they are the usual well known tourist traps.

Any places or things that you know of that are worthy of a stop, please let me know. I will be alone so I don't want to hit any surf that is too crazy, as if I disappear no one will be there to know. I also don't mind heading off the route to see something cool, but not too far as I can't lose too much time.

I am still in the planning stage so any help would be highly appreciated.
thanks

Sounds cool. Living the dream. I have always wanted to take a whole summer and surf my way to central America. I am going to give it a go when my boy get old enough.

I did run into some guys by Playa Negra who had California plates on their truck. They had taken 3 months to get there from San Clemente. They surfed down baja took ferry and surfed as much as they could on the mainland. They did shoot through El Sal cuz political unrest 15 yrs ago. They surfed Guatamala and Nicaragua. Time of their lives they said. Since, I have vowed to make the run.....I just have to bring my kid nowadays, so I need him to get better at surfing. And save a bunch of money, to not work for a summer.
