It depends on if you are going to southern or northern California. Water tempertures are about 65 to 70 in southern and northern in in the high 50's to the low 60's We pretty much always have waves but the larger ones are ususally in the winter time. Have fun.

Summer is nice weather, mass crowds, and not usually a lot of swell. BUT if you do score a fat SWer.....you can score big time..

Spring is usually the worst.

Winter is the biggest. You can score all you want in winter. This Winter has been great. Lost of good swells with good wind conditions.

Fall is my personal favorite. Still gettin the NW and the SW start to mix in. Combined with lots of offshore days and warm calm afternoons...

Last year, if I remember correctly the water temp was over 70 in July.
Also, isalute is right and hoefully we will have a repeat SW swell pumping through again.
