Im flying from colorado to san diego end of march to getout of the snow and hit the waves. I wanted to camp on the beach or bluffs above and surf for a week, so where is a good place that the water is warmest and beach to surf is right there? I will have no transportation while i am there so something off the beach is no good. Areas should be somewhat near san diego. Thanks for any help given.

mountain surfer,
one great place to go for camping and surfing is Trestles / San Onofre. This is a classic area that families have camped at for generations. Although known worldwide for this, more recently it has been in the news because the State wanted to build a toll road through the park. The toll road would have killed the camping and surfing. So many people objected to the plan that the Coastal Commission voted against it and the project was shelved. So, you can go there thanks to all of us that fought it.

Oh, here are some links to San Diego surfers' forums. You might post your questions there; telling them you are from Colorado.

Carlsbad state beach and cardiff have some camp spots right on the water. Both spots have pretty good surf. If you go to the south end of the cardiff site you can paddle out at suck outs which is a reef break and if you paddle out at the north end of carlsbad state beach you can get a really nice beach brake. I really dig both sites so you can't go wrong with either. Pluss if you go to San O you can surf a piece of history, place is top notch.
