Surfing in a francophone country

Hey y'all

I am trying to plan a trip for next year, and the only real criteria is that it's a francophone country, 'cause I want to learn French properly.
I'm also thinking about combining it with surfing, and so my question sounds:
Are there any good surfing spots in France or in another French-speaking country?
Also, when is the surfing season in these countries?

I'm a total beginner. I've tried windsurfing a few times but never wave-surfing. As I have wanted to try this (and try it for real) for many years, I thought it might be a good idea to combine it, and get four or five months of surfing while learning to speak French.

france has some great spots itself, especially for a beginner. i will be headin hopefully in may to la rochelle or around that area, biarritz and st jean de lious (spelt right?) get some great swells. if your just beginning, you will enjoy france and it wont be too dear.

Tahiti.

The sexiest women on the planet by a fair margin, beautiful place, has a few waves too.

But quite expensive.

ditto on Tahiti...or French Polynesia in general. kind of like old Hawaii, except everyone is speaking French. the surf spots ranged from very easy to way gnarly.

Went to La Tranche Sur Mer last year, just over from La Rochelle. Some awesome waves and when I was there, the beaches were almost empty. One morning at around 10am, just me and a bud had the place to ourselves. Trying to persuade the missus that we need to go back again this year.
