Hey dudes, anybody have any relavent information about surfing in Perranporth? Any tips/stories or comparisions with any other surf breaks? Im from Croyde in N.Devon and was planning a road trip to Cornwall, and was wondering if Perranporth would be a good visit.
Any info would be great.

Hey there, I moved to Cornwall a few months back, so i'm a newbie\emmet\grockle etc, however i've been surfing Perranporth\Droskyn as much a poss since. The beach is tops, with easy parking, toilets/cafe/pub next to the sand. Go out on a half rising tide as the water reaches the base of Chapel Rock. The locals will appear like magic behind it ready for the break to appear! Nice waves, good atmos etc..... I haven't got 'in' with the locals yet, but given time.... If you want a good hollow beach break at high tide, go a few miles south to Porthtowan.
Anymore Qs, just ask...
Cheers, Nik.

Wow thanks so much for the info, I think were gonna visit a few Cornish breaks, so Perranporth should be a good one.
They give rain/thunderstorms next week, so I think were gonna leave it a week, although im not sure if theres any swell set to arrive.
Croyde was totally going off last night, and today its even better, 6ft.
I heard Newquay was reaching 6-8ft yesterday!! Looks like us brits have been lucky this summer.
How long have you lived in Cornwall then? You dont seem like a townie from up north to me!
As long as you dont ride a £4.99 polystyrene bodyboard, and drop in at every available opportunity, then i'm sure the locals shouldn't have any problems with you!
Have you surfed anywhere else but Cornwall since youve become a south-westerner?!

He he - no, i'm not a northern townie, just from London. Been holidaying in the SW all my life. Have 'surfed' all the way from Woolacombe & Croyde, bits of Bude, Polzeath and Constantine down to Porthtowan. Never wanted to battle the crowds in Newquay... While I lived up country I stuck to being a sponger, but now i've spent the last two months doing it upright!
Went down to Droskyn early this morning (mon) expecting 2x overhead, only to hear those famous words "you should have been here yesterday!". Went and got wet anyway, but sad to have missed the hurricane Alex party.... Bloody forecasts!!

P'porth is top notch.. just head right the way up beach (hightide you have to go over the dunes.. (mission to walk back tho))
nudist beach at the end but ignor that and you got some wicked reef breaks.

Cool, I think ive gotta go there now, just heard what a radical trip a Croyde local had there once. Thanks PapaWoolacombe, great beach if thats your local break? If it is I guess you know the legendary Nick Thorn!? What a dude.
Neddub, what a distaster! I know the feeling, usually from my brother I get the words 'Should have come here yesterday/5 hours/1 hour ago...etc!
I went today to get the most of the hurricane Alex, although it was totally sketchy and I scared myself with lots of set waves! Oh well, just hope my confidence wont deteriorate now!
At least you got wet anyway, gotta be better than nothing eh!
Ever been abroad surfing then? Given Hossegor a go or maybe Teahupoo?! Hehehehe!!

Hi guys. I'm going to Cornwall later this month. Perranporth sounds kinda sweet. Can you get boards and suits to hire there?

Yeah. There are shops at the back of the large carpark near the beach. I would recommend following the footpath past the first hire place you see and walking through to the street where there is a surf shop directly opposite.
