Hi all,

Thinking about taking a few months off next year - head to australia and just spend time surfing on the east coast. Lived in Sydney for year, but never really got out of the area, so just wondering where you'd recommend?

Realise there are zillions of breaks along the east coast, but just hoping for any suggestions for places that are mellow, good for someone who's still learning and in laid-back areas. I wouldn't be working - due some beach bum time - so preferably places with cheapish hostels etc...

Any opinions gratefully received.
Thanks. J

Seriously, there are that many breaks and beaches, it would be hard to be specific.
We got some isolated LH point breaks like Manyana down south. Or glassy long RH points with a van park right in front, like Crescent Head.
City reef/point breaks like the Island, Fairy Bower or Dee Why Point.... There's Beach Breaks everywhere...
Id prob' reccomend Central Coast to Nth Coast. Just Nth of Sydney is Norah Head/Toukley. Van Park/Point Break/Beach Break/Pub/Girls..... Good spot!

And of course..... there's the Gong! We got it all.
But I'm biased cause I live here.

where you live in sydney? northern beaches or the south? I surf @ Bondi, really love the waves there, they range from good learner breaks to pro ones on different days... you don't really have to look for hotels, there are a bunch of shared room apartments around bondi/bondi beach with ppl from all countries around the world. The place I'm renting at the moment according to my parents is AU$600 a week, 4 bed rooms. Not sure about the ones at North Bondi, a friend of mine was from Japan, he rented a shared room apparent for a year, not sure how much he paid for it per week...
