Surfing Gran Canaria or Lanzarote in October?

Postby chaotic » Sat Sep 15, 2007 4:55 pm

Hi everybody! New to the forum so first post and i'm already asking for help

I'm going on holiday to either Gran Canaria or Lanzarote in October (whichever the cheapest deal is 2 days before we go!) Can anyone recommend surf schools in either area & best resort to stay in? I've only been surfing a few times so i intend taking some lessons to help me improve.

Also in October which wetsuit would i be better taking with me 3mm short or 3mm long don't feel the cold too much so wondering if i could get away with taking the shortie.

Any help muchly appreciated! :D

Hey Chaotic!

I too am planning on going to the Canary Islands in October. Unfortunately for me I've picked a week that coincides with the Scottish school holidays so the prices are going to be a bit more than I was hoping.

I went to Lanzarote in september last year, there were loads of surf schools in the north of the island at Famara beach.

I used this website in planning the holiday

http://www.discoverlanzarote.com/

I can't help you with which a recomendation for shcools.

We stayed in the touristy place, Puerto Del Carmen, and hired a 4x4 to go to the breaks. This way we could get drink of cheap booze at night and dance in cheesy discos.

I'm not planning on taking a wetsuit, the water should be about 22 degrees. If you want to be safe take a shortie. If you are going to a school I think they supply suits.

Hope this helps!
Enjoy
