Sorry just saw this.
Yeah, it literally pays to look at the airline board fee pages (some are more up-to-date than others) and compare with what others say on fbook. I think either Emirates or maybe Qatar was an example of this: crazy fees on paper, but in practice almost everyone says they rarely asked for them at check in provided you were just checking in the board bag.
You have to be pretty discriminating with fbook and boards. Remember what Jaffa said: "If it sounds too good to be true, it is the beginning of a scam." Just be vigilant in checking them for dings, evidence they've been snapped, etc. Be careful if you're trying to sell boards too. The usual crap with people trying to bid you down, but those locals God love them, they'll pull last minute scams to avoid paying agreed on. Last time for me it was sun bleached 10,000 IDR notes that made them look like the other 100,000 IDR notes in a bundle. I admire the effort that went into that and I should have read the initial shady signals and checked the notes more thoroughly, but jeeez

How'd the trip go overall one0one? Anxious to hear!

I see that some people pay more for luggage than the fares.. I figure must be better to rock up and try to pay for trip at the counter with luggage.. that might be the go so I know if its cost effective

theres some good priced boards over there on the fbook pages.. might take no boards :x :x

js raging bull @ 6'3 might be better than my 6'6 @ 39litres .. see how the fundraising goes in the next few weeks

surfed my custom twinny the other day from local shaper on head high waves.. what a weapon of a board  [/quote]

Glad you got through the Zoo and had a good trip, yes all would give you a great first taste of Indo.
How were the crowds post Covid and how much more flexible and easy was it to surf in warm water without have to push through neoprene!

Happy to hear you had a blast eh!!
Ah Canggu, that part made me laugh hard. I hear the hipster nomads are just as bad as ever
Glad you caught Balian on a relatively clean water day as well.
Safe trip back!

surfed uluz and nyang once each before we left I think.. Nyang was fire.. better on mid to high, not mid to low lol.. nyang ended up being my favourite.. less people right hand reef break, simple take off zone no chasing.. nice wally rides over head and a half.. onnnnnnn!!

uluz is the best break i think we surfed though.. I didn't surf my big board at all I think just the 6'0 on two surfs I should have though.. idiot moments.. nothing great amongst the oodles of surfers but got some decent waves and enjoyed them.. hit the reef a few times too.. not as bad as some of the boys they got munted compared to me.. cut my feet up enough though..

hit the reef real hard at nyang nyang the first surf but i had booties on.. it was almost double overhead and we went mid to low tide like idiots.. two of my mates dinged eachothers boards lol.. I got 3 waves.. and tbh i wanted to go in after my first one.. i got pumped from the wave behind mine..

but it was great fun all in all.. and i wan't to go back already lol..

Maybe zou can get to them in our own country , tell us of your adventures in trying them, the Wannasurf pages have some pretty generals information! :D

Thanks for sharing the information I will plan to visit one of these locations and I hope I will find some instructors there who can guide me about surfing.

Strongly agree, even if the younger ones can be a tad more focused on getting their own waves in sometimes
Board prices have shot up a bit (Canggu effect? However, still can find decent priced boards outside of "Probably been snapped a million times buyer strongly beware" Thunderdome of used Facebook forums), but otherwise one0one is bang on here overall.
Big THANK YOU to one0one, Jaffa, others as well. I likely wouldn't have gone on a trip if they hadn't been supportive with advice, sharing mutual stoke, cutting through the BS covid era travel "advice" found else where. Suffering from some pretty serious PTSD, so was hard enough just getting out the door to the airport, never mind planning and going on a big trip like this. Wanted to cancel a million times, but incredibly glad I went. The trip was what I really needed and was content with the lucky days of glassy, mellow 3ft beachies on offer in the wet season. The howling onshore days loaded with projectile coconuts not so much, but having been out of the water since 2019 I wasn't sure how it would all go. Needn't have worried, it all came back on the first wave.
Anywho, thanks again guys, it means a lot!

Sama sama!
Well said and you did
Reports of the walkway/ruining ruining a certain stretch of beachies are also wildly exaggerated

I love the walkway and the new skatepark on the beach.

FWIW I get all my boards from the facebook pages. Yes, many are overpriced and lots are creased or snapped, but if you know what to look for some gems are out there.

Hopeful the walkway doesn't lead to charging access fees and looks a bit like the government is trying to address the erosion issue. We'll see I guess.
Agree, if you're willing to put the time in to sussing it out, some absolute gems out there. I think some folks made out like bandits from 2020-21.

Hey one0one,

Planning a surf trip to Bali, Lombok, and Sumbawa sounds like an amazing adventure! With 11 days, you can definitely make the most of your time and score some epic waves. Here are a few tips to help you plan your trip:

Starting with 3 days in Uluwatu, Bali is a great choice. Uluwatu offers world-class waves and a vibrant surf scene. Afterward, you can consider flying or taking a boat to Lombok or nearby islands for a less crowded experience. Lombok offers a variety of surf breaks, such as Desert Point, Gerupuk, and Mawi, which are known for their quality waves.

If you're looking to avoid crowds and explore lesser-known spots, traveling by boat each morning to different breaks can be an exciting option. It allows you to access secluded spots and increases your chances of finding uncrowded waves. However, keep in mind the logistics and time involved in arranging daily boat transfers.

Alternatively, flying directly to Sumbawa from Denpasar is another option if you want to maximize your time and focus on the waves there. Sumbawa is renowned for its world-class surf breaks, such as Lakey Peak, Scar Reef, and Supersuck. Flying would save you travel time and allow you to spend more time in the water.

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your preferences, the conditions during your trip, and the crowds at each location. Consider researching wave forecasts, checking with local surfers or surf camps, and staying flexible to make the most of your surf adventure.

Wishing you an epic surf trip filled with memorable waves!

Best regards,
Alex from the surf skate OEM factory

oneOone: Mostly stuck to the West Coast beachies. Was too small when I went to Sanur and an ear infection kept me from traveling elsewhere.
Hindsight, wish I'd gone to Lombok, but for some reason I thought you needed a negative PCR test to travel domestically  Oh well, ear kept that from happening anyway

No kidding and goods have gotten even worse in quality, so not even worth the bargain sometimes, despite how fun it is to haggle. Really did miss the food you're right, even with stomach problems  Hearing from friends you're sometimes better off with the small local vendors (even the bakso carts), as they're keen to attract and keep clientele. Some of my old fav haunts have gotten a little too greasy

Debating about heading back. I thought this would be my last, but something about Indo beyond just the waves keeps me going :D
What will you do different next trip?

Taste of today’s swell. I’ll have a look but if that 23sec period is legit I’ll stay on the beach. ;).
