surfing in Maui, Hawaii

Postby dispatch swellin' » Sat May 26, 2007 12:36 am

hey all,

I'm going to go to Hawaii with my family in June, and I was wondering about the surf spots in Maui. We are going to go to stay at Kaanapali, and I was wondering where the spots weren't so rough. I have only surfed fo a little less than a year. I'm not going there for a surf trip, but since I graduated from high school, it's just a present for me, and I'm taking my surfboard. So please tell me where the good beginner spots near Kaanapali are!!!!

Thanks all

theres a spot on the north coast called peahi. its not too bad of a paddle out and a kind of mushy spot, but it looks worse than it is from the shore. you'll be fine on a funboard!

There's Lahaina, always crowded, but only a short drive from Kaanapali. Also Kihei and Wailea, they are further south, not as crowded and have some decent surf spots. Most of the surf lessons are based at Lahaina, but there are a few scattered further down the coast. Just look out the window as you drive from the airport to Kaanapali, you'll see where the crowds surf.
