Run to the Sun - May 25-28

Postby pacey » Tue May 08, 2007 1:08 pm

Suprised there isn't a topic on this. End of the month, Newquay, big event? Probably be absolute chaos and hell on the water, but I'm going all the same - hoping there will be a chance to relax out back as well as party.

My question is: what is the water temp like for a visiting southern-ocean grown boy like me?

Also: What's a good place to hire kit?

If anyone else is going or has been before, be interested to hear your plans/experiences.

Cheers!

I try and keep away over that time ! You can hire stuff from the shop next door to the Espanade Hotel on Pentire Road ! Water temp is not too bad, still might need a 5-4-3mm wetsuit !

RTTS - Huge bunch of pissed, testosterone-loaded lads in vauxhall novas and ford escorts

Used to be good - but its taken on an unpleasant undertone in the last few years and there's been a few 'incidents'. The original RTTS people in the VWs have all but given up on it now. There's alternative venues now.

Its not as bad as everyones making out Pacey, i'm sure you'll have an alright time if you're down there with some friends.

I've been a couple of times but not in the last few years and although its all a bit chavvy now i've not had any problems with fights or anything like that.

Personally i would prefer to spend my time in newquay when its not rtts as opposed to when it is but just go along and enjoy yourself. Oh, i wouldnt bother trying to get in the water though as it'll be chocker.

In the last few years, it has been as bad as everyone is making out.

it was used as a diversion to throw the biggest rave in britain last summer, all the rave vans blended in with the RTTS cars and then turned off at the last min.

The idea of going to newquay when its going to be proper crowded just doesnt appeal to me.

so expect the worst then? You're all confirming my suspicions, i was worried it would be more magaluf than raglan! Well all planned now! I'll give it a go, probs head up the coast and find a quieter spot in the day, and try not to step in any glass/kebab/puke/dead teens at night.

I hope this isn't the last straw for me in my pursuit of UK surf!

Plenty of quieter spots for a surf right near Newquay. As long as you avoid the obvious tourist traps then you should hopefully find some waves without a thousand swell boards clogging it up

Same goes for the nightlife

that sounds like a plan. The surf europe dvd this month got me stoked, i tell ya! Busier than summer in Bondi?

Do you reckon i'll get my face mashed up if i turn up to the burberry-infested campsite behind the wheel of my trusty Proton then? It's a GLS, chavvers!
