wanted: long term accomodation in outer banks (month or so)

me and a buddy both have a long hiatus this summer from work/school respectively and wanna get back to the outer banks.

We are wondering if there are any places to find a like a room for a month (mid-july thru mid-august).

Basically we are from Chicago and don't get to surf much, but are looking just to be able to go about daily for a month this summer, and we have considered costa rica, or going back to new zealand. but we are more interested in surf than travel, and always liked the outer banks, and figure with the money we could save by driving to hatteras, or buxton etc instead of flying into san jose or auckland, we could surf longer.

wondering if anyone has any tips on how to find accomodation like that. Bascially just a room that we can share, nothin fancy. since we paddle out almost every day, as long as its not completely flat. We're not picky.

any leads? I have tried craigslist and couchsurfing without much luck.

I'm not really sure (internet searches), but you might not be surfing as much as you'd like to being in OBX in the summer.

I'd think you'd be able to surf your brains out in Costa. If you can get a decent flight, I know you could save a lot more on a place to stay compared to being in OBX.

It might be hard to find a place in OBX during the prime travel time. You would probably have needed to book something well in advance.
