Postby aaron d » Sun Nov 26, 2006 8:07 pm

hi im irish and thinking of spending the summer working in california, where depends really on what places pick up the summer swell, i sorta got the opinion from a website that la county and orange county were decent places, can anybody tell me the regions that tend to pick up the summer waves? thanks

i live in san francisco and it tends to get literally flat some days in the summer.
santa cruz (1 hour and a half south) tends to pick up the waves a bit better during summer.
I dont know about the rest (begginer surfer)
even though i have heard LA was nice for surfing.

my friends went to california in the summer and said huntington was 10 feet, they have been known to exaggerate so 10 feet to them is really 3 to 5 feet
yea LA and OC are good places to surf so if you go you should get some decent waves.
My friends loved it

northern cal gets the better summer swells overal (i think) and socal picks up the winter swells. (not 100% sure on this its just what i have been told)

But socal wasnt so bad during this summer we had some really good days in san diego.

We always have waves in the summer but 10 ft is a rarity in the summer. They will average waist high to a foot or two over head. Los Angeles, Orange county and San Diego all get some good swells. There are a ton of different locations to surf. It all depends on what you want to surf.

it seems in winter everyone heads down to swami's or blacks (san diego) because the crowds are unbearable when it gets decent swells
