Surfboards plus camping equals...???

Hi guys,
We're heading off to Newquay this weekend (cliche, I know, but should have a few more waves than the north!) and are going to hire boards for a week to save a bit of cash and time.

We've got the whole boards + car transport thing sorted out - tho we might upgrade the homemade roof rack (luggage straps and bits of a roll mat!) so no worries there.

BUT how safe is it to keep the boards at the campsite?? Don't really fancy having to buy the shop two new boards if they get nicked!! I've got a metal thick wire thing with a padlock - the kind that you use to lock your suitcase to your bed when travelling in dodgy places! - do you reckon that would work?? And put the boards in the tent/gazebo (not sure where they'll fit!) Or should I store them overnight on the car roof?? Or in the car...would they fit in a '91 nissan micra with the seats folded down so its clear from front to back?

So many questions!! Eeek!!

I think it depend's on what the campsite is like, when i go camping i leave my board inside the tent. No problem's so far......

If you're hiring swell boards (ie foam ones) then they'll be safe on top of a car, but 'real' boards I'd put in the car

We're going to Hendra - a massive 'family' campsite, loads of kids etc. Not sure about boards...my man is desperate for a 'proper' longboard - he rented a custom one at Cayton a while back and loved itI - 'm terrrified he'll crunch it so I'm planning on persuading him to go for a 8ft funboard style thing. Last few surfs up here I've been on a foamie - but I'm up for a real one...so think we'll both be on funboards.

Would love to try a 'real' one (I had a go on the rented 8'4 I think it was and it was wicked!), but do you reckon that as whitewater beginners thats a bad idea??

cany comment as im still a beginner. However i rented a 10ft foamie and the next day bought a real one so far i havnt noticed any bad dents etc. (that 10ft foamie was about a million times easier to balance on but i hated paddling on it felt like i was paddling a boat
