Surf Spot in OC

I live in North Orange County. I am a beginner, and while I am still trying to round up a buddy to surf with (not much luck there)I was wondering where the best place for a noobie to surf might be. I have been told Bolsa Chica is a good place to learn.

my favorite spot is huntington beach i only get down about once a month cuz i live in l.a. and to get there i hafta take 3 buses and i subway each way but i love that beach. if u go the best spot is just south of the pier maybe 100 yards down. the great thing is that if u paddle out theres relly good waves that r big(but not too big) and after they crash they flow towards the beach and then break again

I surf in Bolsa Chica. I bought a parking pass, so I don't have to worry about gate fees ($10 per car). I just started surfing at the beginning of summer and have surfed this area extensively.

Bolsa Chica is a very popular beach for laid back long boarders. They are all a bunch of good guys, but I'd advise you to find a peak away from them so that a) you don't interfere with them and b) can catch a wave to yourself. The beach spreads for miles, so finding an empty break is easy. You'll find the heaviest line up will be around tower 17, cause there's a very consistent break there. I usually go just south of them at T16 where the wave will be slightly smaller and more forgiving. 18 and 19 can break well but is less consistent. I rarely surf north of 19, but have on occasion surfed around 22. Like I said, 17 has the most consistency.

Now here's some interesting news. The state has begun construction on two jetties and a tidal inlet just yards south of 16. The idea is to re-connect the ocean with the tidal wetlands that were sealed from the ocean over 100 years ago by the Huntington Beach Hunt club. As a result of this project, they will be pumping sand out of the wetlands and into the ocean creating a sand bar wich will create a great wave. People are optimistic about if this new sandbar will "hold" but in the worse case scenario, the waves will be superb for up to 6 months. They expect to see the results around January.

I live in OC bout a couple minutes away from HB. HB is ok for beginners, but I think Seal Beach is the best place to go. They have long rolling waves which is what you're looking for. Good luck.
