Where to stay in Maui (May)

Hey y'all. Going to layover in Maui in May for a very short time and wanted to figure out which town to stay. Wanted to sneak in a quick surf as I've never surfed in Maui!

Which of these places is my best bet at that time of year, for an intermediate? Kihei, Lahaina, Kaanapali? ...Honolua Bay?

Alas not a surf trip so the town of choice probably has to accommodate sightseeing and a quick surf. Maybe a long drive is unavoidable? Mahalo everyone.

Kihei is close to the airport and picks up the south swell. North shore will likely be asleep by May; you'll have a better shot at the southern breaks than the northern breaks.
