Surfing with packs of groms

Postby jacoblobo » Wed Jan 15, 2020 1:52 pm

Does anyone else get really irritated with packs of groms in the lineup (more so than just being irritated with crowds in general)? Many of them are quite good so it's not an issue of not knowing etiquette or wasting waves in my experience. There's always just a lot of screaming / high-pitched swearing, and they are super frothy to the point of ruining any level of chill in the water. Of course I'm letting them do their thing and wouldn't ever be outwardly grumpy to some kids, but am I being a salty old man with this attitude? I'm still in my 20s, is this how the old old guys feel about me?

You are being a grumpy old man lol. Stoked groms should hopefully bring out the stoked grom in all of us! I actually love surfing with younger kids. Just my two cents, though!

I dont mind the frothing, I hate that groms sit 5m closer to the beach in big packs, every time I turn to take off there is someone in the way and/or in the spot where my 7ft board is going to smack them in the head if I fall off

Many are not picky about the waves. They are happy to takeoff on closeouts, get slammed and tell each other how dope it was in the pit.
