Surf Galapagos

Postby Captain Mo » Thu Jan 03, 2019 10:19 pm

Hello Everyone,
I'm heading to the Galapagos Islands in February and I read in the internet that a surf guide (somebody who knows the spots) is really helpful over there.

But I can't find an offer on the internet. Expect of bundles with luxurious hotels.

Does anyone know this place or has somebody experience?

So far we plan to stay for 6 days on San Cristobal.

I would be glad if you can help me :woot:

Cheers!

Frontier stuff the Galapagos , more about wildlife than surf for most!
Do know the swell range is pretty heavy on oceanic lava reefs, so guide yep! Are you self sufficient in rescuing yourself and are you taking a board?
Depending on the sites you investigated, 60 to 70% chance of surf from long period swell, powerful!

Good luck share your adventures with the forum, those who follow you may well be thankful! :D
Even our Surfing Waves information is sparse, your contribution would be welcome!
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷

Try Google Earth. The maps might tip you off to the spots. Also, how easy is it to get around the island(s)? If you can circumnavigate Oahu in about 4 hours in a car, you might be able to check out a lot of potential surf spots with a short drive and some Google Earth clues. I know if I were a surfer on Galapagos, I wouldn't share any of my knowledge of the spots with the internet. If you're on your own, however, then I'd probably look for a guide or a surf buddy for safety.

Thank you for the reply. I know it can get bigger and i read that the spots are really sensitive to swell direction or tide. Because of these reasons I definitely want to have a guide.
@rinkydink: The Galapagos Islands are a national park, therefore it's not possible to just cruise around and find good spots. (As far as I read)
