Southern Baja breaks

Postby surfinggrrrl » Thu Sep 13, 2018 9:46 pm

I recently retired and moved to San Jose Del Cabo. I have been surfing in Northern California,
For the past 20+ years. We decided to move here, because it’s more affordable, and I remember
Surfing on vacation here at Old Man’s Beach (Playa Acapulcquito), was perfect for me. However,
I don’t remember what time of the year we were here. My problem now is, since we have been here (one month) and we have had maybe 5 days of surf Under 5’. That is not how I remember it, but I don’t know what time of year I was here on vacation before.

In California, I surfed mostly summers, 2-3’ waves on my 9’2” nose rider. I rarely went out when
The surf was over 4’, and usually regretted it. When it got bigger, I tried to find a nearby spot, that
Hardly ever breaks, and I might get a few waves. I know who complains about the waves being too big??
We moved here for the surf.
So, is anyone familiar with southern Baja/East Cape area? We are a little far from the Cerritos/Pacific Side, to travel there. . Is it smaller in the winter or spring months here? Anyone ever surf Old Man’s Baja? What time of year? Can anyone suggest any other spots? We are also near Palmilia, where Surfline says there are smaller waves, but I can’t see where it breaks from the beach area. Anyone ever surfed Punta Palmilia?
Any breaks Nearby that may have some small waves, on these these 6-8’ SSW days?
Now that I am retired, I would love to do more Surfing, and maybe someday get into some bigger waves., but that’s in the future. Right now I just want to get more time in the water.

Thanks

:surfing: surfinggrrrl,
congrats on retirement and making a big move to a more mellow place. You must have just hit Old Man’s Beach (Playa Acapulcquito) at the right times in the past. It's not one of the better breaks in the area. That said, there will be times when you will enjoy it. Meanwhile, see the private message (PM) from me. It contains information: 1) some potentially better nearby breaks, and 2) that I didn't want to place on the wide open public forum. Hope you find this information useful.
