Sheltered Waves Northern Los Angeles

Postby thatsincentive » Tue May 22, 2018 1:58 am

Hello everyone,
So I'm a beginner surfer in northern Los Angeles for a little bit.
Tomorrow has a decent swell coming I think, and probably one a bit out of my capability.
I surfed today the tiny cove at Muscle Beach and it was pretty fun, but a little heavy for me. I liked it because the super heavy waves were slamming into the far side of the jetty and it was staying a little cleaner inside.
Anyway, are there any spots in LA or up to Ventura even that are sheltered like this, or like Doheny, where the smaller waves filter through?
Thanks!

Mondos in Ventura County is really fun for beginners to intermediate.

Sadly my trip to California is officially over :(( but thanks for the reply, I'll be sure to go there next time! Very very soon.

Some info so this thread isn't basically useless-
Some ideas I had were Long Beach and Cabrillo beach on the Harbor side, for their respective breakwaters.
I checked Cabrillo and both sides were completely dead, despite the rest of the coast working, so I guess pretty sheltered indeed.

I didn't even check Long Beach since Cabrillo looked so crappy.

This was Wednesday 5/23
