Surf spots

Hi, I've finally booked my trip to Hawaii (Maui island) in January . I'm a beginner - intermediate surfer coming with my husband slightly less confident then me. Can surf green waves front and backside open face up to about shoulder high. Was wondering if anyone can recommend
- good place to stay - area/condo etc that might have a good beach break appropriate to our skill level nearby
- somewhere to rent boards
- someone that might be able to give us tips and guide which places would be appropriate to surf for our skill level (not necessarily lessons but more of tips and things to watch out for)

All the companies with lessons that I've come across so far seem to pack everyone into surf at the same places and seem to be geared more towards early beginners.

Most beginners and lessons go to Launiopoko. Honolua bay is too high level for you. Hookipa is too windy and mainly for Windsurfers - Kiteboarders. Lahaina Harbor is too shallow and reefy for someone who is used to sandy beach breaks. January is mainly swell coming from the North.
You should have booked your vacation to the island of Oahu and surf in Waikiki.
