Seeking advice for vacation in August

Greetings,
My brother, a friend, and I are planning to go surfing in Portugal for 2 weeks in August. We’ve only been surfing once for about a week with a surf-school. So, we’re still beginners.
Where there are the best places to go surfing in Portugal (or Europe in general)? Do we have to worry about the weather, depending where I go? I heard that the waves are pretty consistent throughout the year almost everywhere in Portugal. Also, I guess, it’s the best to sign up for a surf camp/school, however, I like to have some independence. So, if there is a way to rent boards and wetsuits easily, let me know.
