group surfing weekend ideas

Postby surfnewb » Sun Nov 08, 2015 6:37 pm

Hi all,

I wonder if I could get some advice... Has anyone here successfully organized a group surfing holiday for 10+ people in Europe?

Next May 2016 I am looking to organize a group weekend trip focused around surfing (say Friday-Sunday/Monday)/ There will be a mix of total beginners (like me) and intermediate surfers. Ideally we would go somewhere where all the equipment we need is available - however, I imagine some of the group will bring their own equipment.

Ideally I would like this to be for 10+ people, including some surfing lessons - but would also like to be close enough to a large city to allow for at least one evening of partying :) Would it be a good idea to rent some 4 by 4's or should we all stay close to the surf location? Would it be just a single location or several? Is there anything I should be aware of or anything I should avoid?

So far I have been looking at Portugal as would like to have minimal travel time from London uk. It would be great if that accommodation was either a very large apartment and or single/ double rooms as there needs to be enough facilities so it feels like a holiday.

Thank you for your time and help! Greatly Appreciated!

I would suggest you google surf Portugal ASAP, most of the surf camps and schools with accommodation will book out early so getting 10 spaces might be hard otherwise. European summer time as you would know!
Baleal, Peniche area is where I suggest , learners central there. It's will be crowded but the party mode will be up too. Have fun with that , good quality partying !
Believe me you will find getting 10 people together is like herding cats, so follow up on your good start by looking now! Good luck

Hey @Jaffa1949 is right - the earlier you book the better your chances. Another idea would be an Airbnb or vacation rental that could accomodate your whole party near one of the Portugal surf towns - that would be a pretty epic experience w/ more space, privacy and amenities. Prob make for some great memories either way

Would agree about looking for house on airbnb or similar, for large numbers this offers good space, usually better amenities and just find somewhere close to where you want to go. Not surf related but we went down as a family to Cornwall last summer (8 people, 5 bedrooms needed and had to allow a dog) ended up with an amazing house, great views, pool table, hot tub etc etc and was far cheaper than hotels etc.

I am a beginner myself but have looked into Peniche as Jaffa suggests and also my mum went on beginner surf holiday to north Spain and loved it.
