Michael we get a lot of resorts in Mentawaiis and elsewhere posting their information as an ad in the forum. Usually by URL link
Rather than just putting up a brief blurb like that, why not contribute to the forum in two ways .
By talking about the waves of the area and when, how they can be accessed as information and then by taking out paid advertising on this site.
I surf through Indo and the Mentawaiis a lot and I am in favour of on the ground lodges and resorts supporting local people rather than boat in boat out, virtually no contact with the shore trips.
Have a think about how you could give out more general information .

Hi Jaffa,

Thanks for your reply and totally understand what you mean actually..wasn't really ment that way, more a bit enthusiastic I think by just posting our new camp on Simeulue.. : ) but do get the point of course.

As for the surf, it's still a pretty undiscovered island, so the surf is all a bit hard to find. There are actually many spots on the island, some of them don't even have names...

The traveling is still a bit 'off the beaten track' but that's what makes it interesting in that area. Will scout some forums in the next couple of weeks and see if we can contribute on a more 'informational' level and let people know on how stuff 'works' on Simeulue.

Good to hear though that you prefer the land based accom instead of boating : )

Thanks, Nils (Mike's brother actually)

Thanks for replying, love the enthusiasm.
Without giving away those secret little reef spots around the corner, share a bit more of the area.
Most resorts and camps are mercifully free of the night life, say of Bali etc, and a re limited to surf talk and BS around the bar before hitting bed early before the next day's surfing.
I'd love to know more beyond the resort site, tidak apa apa.

Terima kasih! Jaffa and Swaroopa..

Sorry for the late re-post/reply..been away for three weeks : )

Yeah well actually on Simeulue there is no way you can get alcohol anywhere, it's an Islamic Island, we can drink on our resort and have some beers, when guests arrive, but we don't take it outside the premises, also cause of respect to the local people!

So ehmm no clubbing there..haha..we hang around the pool and deck and fix a fish bbq, play some music, drink some beers and hit the bed then get up early and surf all day : )

Simeulue is amazing, it's got deserted beaches..people wave when you drive by on your motorbike and everyone is very friendly. It's a good thing that mass tourism hasn't hit the island yet! no high buildings or ugly concrete stuff on the shore lines! It might be a matter of time maybe, but hope not.

One thing one has to keep in mind that all the local are Muslim people, so you should respect that. Also for women it's advisable that they wear a short and t shirt when surfing/swimming.

Have you been to Simeulue?

Thanks and bye, Nils

Thanks Nils, you covered some thoughts that are important in a new surf area with a different culture and religion. RESPECT.
Many of our western habits are considered at the least as curiousities and at the worst high offensive.
So doing many simple things in dress and manners keeps everything cool, and often at a new destination the surfer is among the first westerners.
That raises the question, what does your behaviour say about you and you culture?

Simeulue has heaps of waves some are well known Thailands, Jackals Tea Bags many are off the beaten track. Been here exploring for over 15 years beginning Late 90s with the crew of Bohemian. Gave the names Tea Bags and Thailands. Jackals is a relatively new wave was formed when Simeulue uplifted 2 meters during the 2004 EQ that also caused the The Great Tsunami. <edit>
