Hawaii? Where to go?

Postby Refrusloi » Fri Jul 15, 2005 5:53 am

I may take a trip with my family to Hawaii. Im not sure if we will go during summer or winter break.

What i know is that for summer you should be on the south shores, and winter you should be on the north shores. Im not good enough to surf north shore oahu tho. Those waves like the pipeline would kill me :P. But im no beginner either. So where would you suggest for some very quality waves?

First what island will be off to? I only know Oahu spots. For south shore on Oahu anywhere in the Ala Moana area is pretty good. Just go to Ala Moana beach park and paddle straight out. Its right straight out from Ala Moana shopping center. You can try Waikiki but will be crowded there will smaller waves. Diamond Head has bigger waves but is more choppy due to wind. Hope that helps.

Aloha!

TokyotheKid,
The localism isn't as bad as everyone claims. If you're a good surfer and don't get in anyone's way nothing will happen. Its hard to tell whose local and whose not nowadays because of the rising number of people that are moving to Hawaii. We try to share the islands with people but we cannot possible share all of it. Understand that the government took away Native Hawaiian land so that's why many locals are still territorial. For the most part south shore is pretty mellow if you ask me. Please don't look at Hawaii in a negative way and do not encourage gun use.

Aloha!

duhkine-
tokyo was just messing around. and its mellow for you maybe, because youre probably not white. if i get in someones way by accident, i get a hard time about it. And if i surf inwaikiki by the wall, i get xxxxx for being white every time. Same goes for spots on the north shore. dont talk if you dont know. if you are white, it doesnt count unless youre not tan and have blonde hair. people look at those with brown hair and brown eyes differently, since some hawaiians here are so ignorant. the fact that the US government did what they did doesnt give them the right to be the way they are, beating up and robbing tourists in Laie or burning japanese girls by sea life park. the US also took america from the indians. They had blacks as slaves. in the middle east whites used to be slaves believe it or not. i dont think anyone owes me anything for what happend to my ancestors. my ancestors are not me. the past is past, its not perfect, so hawaiians need to stop blaming their failures on that fact. they dont deserve a leg up because of the color of their skin, only for what they themselves have done, not their ancestors. they need to be responsible and independent and get a life. the only people who deserve extra help are those in poverty or impoverished countries, no matter what color they may be.

Laniakea, is a long right which can connect into a world-class wave for over 300. Finding Lani's is easy, on the North Shore of Oahu, when you leave Haleiwa going towards sunset, it is easily visible with lots of cars usually parked in the dirt across the street. The reason for the cars is Laniakea is a favorite spot of surfers driving over from town, and it's usually a bit crowded. check out northshore.com for better info about the northshore spots.

on the south side of oahu there is diamond head, waikiki and alamoana bowls. these places are best in the summer.

aloha!
