I am also a very new surfer, and I have traveled around western Europe a bit and I highly suggest you try to get to the southwest coast of France. Beautiful waves, gentle surf and surf schools everywhere. There are more French vacationers than American, but the whole attitude is very friendly and laid back there. I dream about returning there to surf, you should try it.
