Indo Surf Trip- Boat or Kandui Resort?

Postby TommyRio » Fri Aug 14, 2015 11:40 pm

Hey Guys and Gals,

I'm planning an Indo surf trip for spring 2016 with some buddies. I'm doing some research and having a hard time figuring out a game plan. I would love some 1st hand info & recommendations.

We are torn between a live aboard boat or staying at the Kandui resort or so other resort in the area.

If you have been to Indo can you please share some reviews and or recommendations? I really appreciate your help!

Tommy, where are you based your spring time will determine whether Indonesian swell time is operating.

I've been to Kandui Resort for 20 days and I am really happy to recommend it :D
there are at least 25 to 30 waves within easy access, at most 3/4 high speed canoe ride and 5 breaks directly outside the resort.
There are waves from super hot expert level death slabs to easier waves down the scale.
The resort has a number of boats and shuffles people off to their preferred break.
They know the conditions well and can slot into the day's best.
Good food, air conditioned Umas ( cabins) showers and all the stuff you need.
The pricing is high end but they deliver.
Kandui also tries to get people onto the less crowded waves.
There are other camps a couple similar in quality and then others varying down to downright feral home stays.
Get one that takes care of getting to the Playgrounds area otherwise there are adventurous but epic ferries and island hops to get to where you are going. Less surf time!

Boats I know a few of the Aussie crews plying those waters Barrenjoey comes to mind.
If you can fill a boat with your mates then you are likely to have a better time than going with others who might have different surf requirements.

Where are you coming from? That can be a factor too!
I certainly will go the resort way again, but I'm an old fart and would not like to be locked on a boat with any of my mates
