HI! welcome to socal(southern california, assuming thats where you'll be going

really, you don't need 2 get all antsy thinking we're gonna string you up by ur toes or anything :-0. It depends when you come: during the winter i don't recommend, becuz thats when we get all our winter NW swells, and everybodys all agro cuz its 8-10+ feet. During the summer its usually crowded, both in the water and on the beach, partly cuz thats when all the non surfers emerge from their houses to sunbathe for hours on end. If you go to breaks in Orange and LA counties, theres a good chance it'll be crowded, just cuz those counties are crowded as well. The main tourist/sunbather beach is Zuma, in Malibu, but don't bother with it in the summer b/c it's flat as a pancake. I surf Ventura County usually, and while it can get crowded, there's not a mosh pit out in the water. In winter, it's awesome, cuz the whole coast explodes with really good, huge (for us) waves. But like I said, along with that comes alot of guys who can get very possesive. A good readout on all the beaches in the area is at Surfline, go to
www.surfline.com , and click on TRAVEL in the header column, you'll find a pretty accurate assesment of all the beaches and where to stay, what to eat, etc.
Hope this was helpful, and welcome!!
