Pls advise on surf spots in Sept / Oct

Postby alchemist » Sun Jul 06, 2014 4:49 am

Hi all

About 5 yrs ago I was blessed enough to meet some really cool people who took me under their wing and we surfed in Ohio for a few weeks and I loved it. Since then the opportunity never came to surf again until now. As it happens I have about 4 months off and want to spend it all surfing. I am so excited but cant work out where to go. So it would be so awesome to get some advice on where to go.

Logistics wise, I need to be back in london for a couple of weeks at the end of Oct. So was thinking of doing two 2 month trips; Sept / Oct and then Nov/Dec. I will be on low budget after paying for flights,

Is Sept / Oct good time to surf in Bali? What about Colombia? Really need some advice please on where to go in the world.

Thanks

If you are around London then why not Morocco?

if you are in the US, then i would look at Costa Rica as well as the other countries around there

Bali isnt super great for beginners, its generally a bit more advanced (or, at least, if you can go anywhere in the world as a beginner, I wouldnt chose Bali as the first choice)

That said, for 4 months you can choose 2 or 3 countries and a bit of travel

Thanks for the suggestions. Few questions pls.

I hear Morrocco is cool but I was there biking a couple of months back. So as a change of culture Whats portugal and spain like in Sept for surfing?

Can i just buy/rent a board and wetsuit, rent a camper van and start hitting the beginner spots? Or is it worth going to a surf camp for a week?

In preparation im training everyday now for the next two months. Swimming, breathing techniques, got me a balance board, core work, even learnin to play the guitar as i feel that might be part of the surfer vibe :). What else should i be doing?

Thanks

Hi

If you'll be in Asia., I suggest surfing in Sri Lanka. This is the most unforgettable surfing spot I've ever been.

Morocco is a good choice. Weather is perfect, waves are good. 3 1/2 hour flight from London will take you to Agadir. Flights from Stanstead direct to Agadir if booked a month or 2 in advance can be got for as little as £40. Lot's of surfing places with tuition if needed.
