There's no surf in Perth

Postby kateontour » Wed Feb 25, 2004 3:41 am

The whole coast is awesome apart from Perth itself - it absolutely sucks apart from about 10 days a year, so don't base yourself in Perth. Or be prepared for a 3-4 hour drive for decent waves.

Perth is surrounded by a few islands and a reef that stops the swell getting in. Trigg is the best of the worst, but crowded. The artificail reef at Leighton is plagued by old farts on longboards, apart from a few days a year when it fires up.

Come to the East Coast for Waves and Cities!

Leighton artificial surf reef

Postby surf patrol » Wed Feb 25, 2004 6:22 am

Hi kateontour, welcome to Surfing Waves.

I saw the Leighton reef work for the first time last week and I must say it did work really well. They should just blow Rottnest out of the water and let the swell roll in.

Surfing in perth, WA

Postby Soul Surfer » Tue Mar 09, 2004 12:49 pm

Yeah i agree, in Perth itself there is phuk all surf, however, if you go to Rottnest Island, when there is less than a metre of surf at Trigg Point in Perth, there is double the swell at any spot on Rotto! Getting there is easy by ferry from Fremantle or Hilary's boat harbour but make sure u book accomodation before you get there as its normally packed!
