Surf Camp for Beginner

Postby daga » Sat Nov 27, 2010 5:38 pm

Had a surf lesson in Taghazout a few weeks ago and totally loved it, so I've booked a week off work at the end of March to go to a surf camp. Have been looking at some deals in Lanzarote and am pretty committed to going, but wondered if anyone had any good advice - companies to avoid, recommendations etc. My main aim is to get a reasonable technique prior to buying a board and wet suit for a summer of surf in the UK.

Hey!

You should def. go to the Good People Surf camp in Zarautz this summer. Cool people, super good food and perfect for beginner surfers as well. It's an international surfcamp so you'll meet people from all over the world. They also organize fun extra activiteis like a city visit, going to a surffactory and surfbrand outlet stores!

Hi there,
I was in the same position and tried out a few not-so-good surf holidays before I found a really great one. I'd advise you to go with Liquid Surfschool, they're based in Fuerteventura, the camp is cool and so are the people who come out here (made loads of friends!!) but especially it's that their instructors are awesome, I learned more than on any of my other surf trips by far.
The problem is that loads of surfcamps and surfschools out there are just about numbers: big groups, quick lessons, not much personal attention, and instructors who are there for a few months and don't know the spots so well, or just don't really care about you, they just want to surf!
Anyway, hope that helps,
Soph

Thanks all. Finally got to Lanzarote in October, illness and injury preventing the planned trip in March. Had a really great time but fitness and flexibility let me down a lot so didn't get as far as I'd liked. Not dissuaded though - am looking to get some practice in the UK over winter, then have another go in the spring.

Solo holidays are not cool.... surf camp holidays are way cool :)

Where did you stay in the end? It would be nice to get some impartial information about a surf camp.

If your thinking about going to Lanzarote dont forget about Fuerteventura which is right next to Lanzarote and has more Beginner spots and in my opinion prettier beaches. In Corralejo you can find many surf camp and other surf accommodations with all services as commercial and leisure.
